Germany’s invasion of the Netherlands was unnecessary, and uncalled for. When World War II began in September of 1939, the Netherlands immediately claimed neutrality- neutrality of which Hitler swore to respect. Although on May 10th, 1940, Hitler’s said respect had clearly diminished as Germany invaded the Netherlands on their way to Belgium and Luxembourg. There had been no prospective reason for the taking of the Netherlands, as it had just been the fastest route to where Hitler really wanted to advance his troops. The Germans occupied the Netherlands for years, taking advantage of them, starving them, and essentially imprisoning them. This went on until September of 1944, when the Liberation of the Netherlands began. Sources: "1940: WHY GERMANY INVADED NETHERLANDS & BELGIUM." 1940: WHY GERMANY INVADED NETHERLANDS & BELGIUM.
